My Experience and Credentials
My Experience and Credentials
I earned my master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Howard University’s School of Education while my Bachelor of Arts degree was obtained from Buffalo State College. Today, I reside and work in the District of Columbia as a licensed professional counselor in my private practice, Evans Counseling & Consultation, PLLC.
I have been delivering mental health services for more than 25 years with an expansive history of working with adults, adolescents, and children. I provide assessment and counseling to address family conflicts, suicide, domestic violence, and critical incident stress. Additionally, I work with specialized populations, such as law enforcement officers and their loved ones.
In my professional career, I am a member of the American Counseling Association and the Association for Spiritual, Ethical, and Religious Values in Counseling. I am also certified by the National Board of Certified Counselors.
I’ve published some of my articles, including “Traumatic Spending: A Reaction to Critical Incident Stress” and “Compulsion: The Shopping Spree 1997.” Additionally, I use poetry as a method for addressing and healing personal wounds and inner conflicts of my clients.
Outside of my practice, I am a leader in the outreach ministry for feeding programs that serve the homeless, needy families and children in Washington, D.C. I am also trained in the practice of tai chi, qigong, guided imagery, and other relaxation techniques.
Tranquility by Janis Leslie Evans
Tranquility by Janis Leslie Evans
Still as a tree with steady root,
Soft breezes gently sway,
Outside in the morning dew,
Preparing for the day.
Quietly I take it in,
Listening inside,
The sounds of nature play a tune,
My heart beats are in stride.
The warmth of love embraces me,
Feeling very safe,
The spirit of my Savior breathes,
His grace upon my face.
The peace of God rains on my skin,
Each droplet cleansing me,
Renewed and free of burden’s plight,
I feel tranquility.
